Canadians for Action

Canadians for Action in Darfur is a movement which actively advocates for the Canadian Government to play a more prominent role to stop the humanitarian crisis in Darfur. We currently are circulating petitions across the country. So far we have over 5,000 signatures from St-John’s, Newfoundland to Vancouver, B.C. These petitions are being presented in the House of Commons beginning the week of June 2nd, 2008. So far thirty MPs from the New Democratic Party, the Bloc Quebecois, the Liberal Party of Canada, and the Conservative Party of Canada are presenting these petitions. We implore you to get your friends and family to sign the petition as well as to raise awareness throughout your community. The Canadian government must know that its citizens will not remain complacent in the face of the biggest humanitarian crisis of the 21st century.

Canadians for Action in Darfur will:

  1. Lobby Members of parliament from across the country to present one of our petitions to the Canadian Government.
  2. Present at community centers, churches, shopping centers, high schools, CEGEPs and universities.

This is our chance to show the government what we as Canadians care about. If the Canadian government steps forward and takes a leadership role on the issue, we will be able to make a difference in the lives of hundreds of thousands ... even millions ... of people in Darfur. This is our opportunity. We can make a difference. As Margaret Mead said: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world. Indeed it’s the only thing that ever has.”
